There'a a report from Nature talking about some contest for scientists to make the longest-living mice. They get money every day the mouse lives past the current world record. The oldest one is 5 years old (150 in human years). The scientists are allowed to use any method to achieve their ends. This whole thing is for research into human longetivity.

Which begs the question, why WOULD you want to live that long? After 70 or 80, you're pretty much useless as human being. I'm not sure why you'd want to live in a semi-state until you're 150. What purpose does that serve?

I'd rather die relatively early than live to be too old. There's just something embarassing about not being able to take care of yourself. Ideally I could pass away (assuming I have kids) after my kids grow up and are adults. Then I can pass on my massive credit debt to them ( ha ha! just kidding! ).

Does anyone actually dream of living past the age of 80? I mean, that lady who just turned 120 (was it?) sleeps two days then stays away from two days. I wonder what she does for those days ...

I would think otherwise. Know Peter Drucker? He's now 93 years old still functioning well, still contributing. You'll not have to feel like that lady if you feel your life serves a purpose no matter how old you get. So.. yeah, I'm inspired to live longer. Heh.

eat well, excercise, don't smoke, stay out of the sun, and you will look young and live long and healthy... damn i'm 1 for 4. in that case i'm gonna have to go out like a thug in a massive compton gunfight

:/ Living that long is a curse. In many, many, many ways.

I don't think I want to live past 50. Heh. Being old and dependent on everyone with everything you do is scary. I like being independent. Growing old and staying old and never dying... it's like being trapped in your own body.

Poor squeakers.

It all depends if with the longer lifespan also comes slower aging. if you were for example 60, but still looked and felt like you were 45'ish, wouldn't you want to live longer?

But I think our bodies are physically incapable of that type of wear. I believe the longevity research they're doing now doesn't extend our prime ages (like, we don't stay like we're 20 until we're age 40) but rather just keeps us alive past age 80 with the same health.

True, but then again, some people naturally seem to age slower, maybe they should study them, see if it's genetic or otherwise, and apply that knowledge to help people live longer prime ages. I know some people who have seemed to stay younger like that, and so have some of their family members.

Hrm, I don't really believe its genetics. The most accurate factors would be your lifestyle: physical activities/exercise, your diet, etc..
