So as a a part of my new training regimen, one of my trainers got me to buy a heart rate monitor watch (the Polar FT7). It's pretty cool - cause I can see how much of my workout session I spend burning fat, and what is fitness improvement.

What was particulary interesting was how high my heart rate gets during exercising - my body just isn't used to it yet. For example, during yesterday's workout session, I went an average of 170bpm for an hour... with a maximum of 196. According to the Wikipedia graph for exercise zones, that's the max.

That's probably why I was superexhausted yesterday.

so when it's at 196 bpm you don't burn fat or is it because you spend all your energy to be able to continue working out efficiently?

yeah you don't burn fat at that bpm - you burn muscle. but it's also just bad for you - stresses your heart out.
