Supposedly mySQL allows clustering now, but you have to store it all in memory? Meaning I would need to buy 6-12 gigs of RAM (to be on the safe side) ... and then cluster around it? Very interesting.

A useful discussion on Slashdot regarding the salary of entry-level programming jobs. I wish I had the Java/C++ background to pursue these jobs. Maybe I'll learn some C++ or C# or .NET or something.

I think you\'d have a great chance for web app jobs. Definately should look into applying at companies for internships if you\'re interested in that. However, an internship in your own field of study might be more useful in the long run career-wise.

no degree needed.. Go into company, start programming, transition. Better to learn how the hardware works behind it.

Programming has a glass ceiling it seems. Once a sw slave, always a sw slave.

The best piece of advice in the thread is the part about getting a steady job by getting your security clearance. It\'s true, but roy... you know what I think of that. =)

Come out with that killer ap and put Google to shame. You can do it =P
