Ok, I need some help. I have a Dell wide-panel monitor, and I want to share it between my Mac G5 tower and my tablet PC. I don't need to share keyboard or mouse, so I don't think I need the whole KVM shebang-bang. Does anybody know a piece of hardware that would let me do this cheaply?

Bonus points: I might be buying a second monitor very shortly, and if I could plug that monitor into the switch and have a dual monitor set-up on both computers, that would be awesome.

Thanks, nerds. Don't let me down.

I just keep a loose VGA cord plugged into my 24" Dell and the Mac G5 plugged in via DVI-D. When I plug my notebook in via VGA, push the mode button on the front and its good to go. You can keep on eye on both systems with PIP or PBP too. It's not a bad set up but I'm keen to swap my whole set-up out with a Mac Book Pro + Parallels.

When I'm rich enough, eugh. I might as well add 2 30" Apple HD displays to that, cos it probably ain't happening...

The only hardware I could think of would be a hammer. Sorry, couldn't resist, since I have no clue as to what you are talking about with all this techno talk. :-)

As an aside, I take 2 of the 3mg melatonin tablets when I can't sleep, but I agree, there is a tendency to have a slight hangover from them in the morning.

Random comment Roy...you mentioned that you were having problem sleeping...have you tried Melatonin? It's a natural sleeping agent...it really helps. Maybe it can help you? Take care.

Sir, I was once ranked #1 in ANAL (American Nerd Amphibious League) for 15 consecutive years. Some A-hole came at me with a surprise attack from behind and took my #1 ranking away for 2 months. I didn't even see him coming. It was most humiliating. Anyhow, with my overwhelming experience, I think you want to hear me out.

Because you are operating on a Dell wide-panel monitor, the first thing you need to do is to fallafel the KVM and soak it in maple syrup, but only organic shit, none of that other crap.

Be sure to bust a NUT monitor out as well, for practical reasons. I don't think I really need to explain.

Then you counter-intuit the streamline between Lim's tower and your PC, be sure to check the compatibility of hardware as incompatibility is gay.

Then you're all set. Listen, have you ever considered ANAL? The group is looking for young blood like you.

A lot of Dell LCDs have multiple inputs. I know mine has both VGA and DVI inputs and can switch between them.
