Sports gambling is fun. I used to think poker is fun ... but it does not remotely compare to the rush from football sports betting. I've been dabbling in some betting (nothing too serious, don't worry, I have self-control ... or do I?) lately, and I guess last week was the week I got to beat the odds:

I noticed over the past few weeks that the underdogs were doing a really damn good job of covering. Some teams weren't just getting any love from the point spreads (Seattle and Philly were getting a lot of favorable points over the last few weeks), so I decided last week to simply bet the underdogs all the way. Any team that was getting more than 9 points, I bet on them. And guess what? Using that strategies the last two weeks would net you HUGE wins.

This past Sunday, look at what happened:

 • Detroit Lions +13 end up beating Dallas outright, 38-31
 • New England Patriots +3 stomp the Titans 40-23
 • Arizona Cardinals +14 cover against the Chargers
 • Atlanta Falcons +9 cover against the Miami Dolphins
 • San Fransisco 49ers +10.5 beats Denver outright 26-23 in OT

Want to hear something sickening? I had placed my bets on Saturday night before going out - when I was out, I remarked to Han, Yush, and Crisp that I had messed up one of my 5-game parlays by betting on Jacksonville when I meant to take Kansas City. Guess what happened? The other 4 games hit, and I would have hit a 5 game parlay. My $5 bet was worth $120... :(:(:(:(:(

Feeling pretty good about my perfect selection, I decided to roll the dice and bet everything I had on the Green Bay / Chicago game. After a bit of hemming and hawing, I took Green Bay +3.5. And guess what? Green Bay KILLED Chicago. Woot.

I quickly put in a payout request (but left enough to bet on the first round playoffs); any financial cushion for when I move will be much appreciated...

I've noticed that when I post my picks ahead of time, I always botch them, so I'll keep my picks for the NFL playoffs to myself ...

Hey Roy, I didn't know where else to post this, but here goes. I couldn't find any documentation on the tabulas site for how to install a radio blog on Macs, so I did some research, got mine working, and wrote up a little tutorial. :) Feel free to use it if you'd like!

How to install a Tabulas radio blog on a Mac

1. Go to http://www.panic.com/audion and download and install Audion. If you have OSX, get the "paid" version because it's free now that they are no longer updating it. Pick up the free serial number available on the site.

2. Go to "Window" and "Enter Serial Number"

3. Go to "Preferences" and click "Change Encoder Settings" under Active Encoder.

4. Under the "Encoder" tab, enable mp3PRO (this is the one you'll be using). 64 kbps is normal, but if you want it to encode faster and don't mind lesser quality, set this lower. It takes about 10 minutes for a 4mb song.

5. After you encode the mp3 (and make sure it's an mp3, not mp4 or anything), right click on it and select "Get Info." Change the file name to .rbs and add the artist name and all that to make it look nice in your radio blog. You can't just change the file name in Finder because it still retains an invisible .mp3 extension that way. Close the window and select "use .rbs" when a popup appears.

6. Upload your music to tabulas! :D

If you still have trouble, there are some alternative methods if you are more Mac savvy and comfortable with using Terminal (I'm not).

it was the last week of the season... crazy crap happens during the last week of the season....

playoffs are a little better... but this year has been crazy in terms of dogs covering. =) I hit my huge parlay this year already so i don't mind.

and some stats that show how ridiculous this year has been...

underdogs went 13-3 last week, bringing their record to 136-97-6 on the season.

out of those 136 underdogs that covered, 100 won their games outright (including 11 of 13 last week). and this was before the last week of the season started.

this was the year when dogs covered almost every time. sports bettors were going crazy all football season. glad to see you ended up on the positive side of things.
