This is primarily for those of you overseas in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc... how prevalent are cell phones? How ingrained into the culture are cell phones, specifically text messaging and camera phone picture taking? And what serves are popular for posting to the web directly pictures from a camera phone or text messages?

And if you do use these services, how do they primarily work? I'm guessing you use the text messaging feature to send the message to an email address that's already set up for you?

Much thanks.

Edit: Actually, everybody answer! If you're from the US, tell me your service provider and how well the whole system works for you.

Try textamerica.com . I think one of its developers is a Tabulas user so you might want to check that out. You can send in your pictures via upload or by sending through the e-mail account that you had sign-up from them. Its actually cool coz its another level of blogging. :P

in singapore, almost everyone 14+ has a cell phone. text messages is a way of life around here. camera photos are quite popular, but more so amongst the girls. overall, both features are very highly demanded. camera photos are shared occasionally but they're not too popular yet due to the relatively higher cost of MMS's compared to SMS's.

here in the philippines, almost everyone has a cellphone. most cellphone owners (maybe 70%, am not so sure) have a cellphone with a camera, me included. i don't post much pictures on the web, but when i do, i usually send them to my email add first and then i retrieve them and post them wherever (am not too WAP-savvy so i have to resort to this option).

Haha. Most of the Malaysians above 14 years of age has at least one cellphone, and most of them can't live without it. I'm ashamed to say that I'm one of them. What a slave to technology. :P But I don't think there is a particular service locally that allows us to post online via text/MMS messaging yet. Some (at least one, anyway) of the providers seem to have pulled the text-to-email services.

In singapore, at least 90% of students above 11 years old have cellphones. At younger ages you tend to get simpler ones, but around my age (15) almost everyone has a camera phone

How are these camera pics shared usually? Or are they just stored for personal use?

I've heard mobile phone penetration in the US is far less than most other developed countries, due to the abundance of 'hard line' phones.

Over here in New Zealand, just about everybody has a mobile phone and 'txt'ing (and 'pxt'ing as of late) is rampant. I mean, kids down to 8 years old have them in notable numbers. I don't have one (yet? so I guess this wasn't too helpful :P). About 80%+ penetration — I don't know anyone without some sort of mobile phone.

('Cellphone' is an American misnomer; not all mobile phones operate on a cellular network.)

Are there any sites that have become the default for pxt-ing that i can take a look at?

Well, I'm kind of partial to the idea :P

But in all reality, I don't see myself using this feature to often. What is so important that I need to take and upload a picture at that instant, or how long am I away from a computer to not add an entry.

I guess there are multiple time when I would use it, but right now? Not often.

For me, being in the US, I don't see it being a feature that would 'do it' for me. Although it's a really cool concept and there is a good chance I would start using it, if I had the option to.

Lol, I feel like I just beat myself with a stick...
