I've been making a mental group of "best artists/bands of all time." I don't believe in lists (the whole concept of ordering subjective things pisses me off) so I've simply made a group of artists and bands that I feel are the best. I don't have too many strict rules on what helps you get on this list, but a diversity of music and longevity are the key factors.

  • Beatles
  • Oasis
  • Radiohead
  • Queen
  • Counting Crows
  • Greenday
  • Tupac Shakur
  • Moby
  • Outkast
  • Led Zeppelin
  • Jay-Z

The second grouping below are artists I'd tier below this group. The main reason they never made the "jump" is because I feel they didn't offer too much diversity in their music.

  • Matchbox 20
  • Bon Jovi
  • Offspring
  • Weezer
  • Sarah McLachlan
  • Semisoni
  • The Ataris
  • The Shins
  • The Get Up Kids
  • Yellowcard
  • ATB
  • Phantom Planet
  • Eminem
  • Michael Jackson
  • Elton John

Weezer got a tremendous jump from Buddy Holly being on the Windows 95 disc. I remember seeing that and being all, "WTF?"

It's hard to accept Offspring, Eminem and Sarah McLachlan on the same list.

These are obviously the worst lists ever made.

WTF?!?!? Jay-Z with the Beatles? Hovah?!

How come I don't see Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, and David Bowie?

Of course, everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

Well, I'm not saying they are equal, but the Hov deserves some mention for the longevity of his career in an industry with a half-life of ... roughly 2 months. Plus his albums are surprisingly solid and fun to listen to even after hundreds of listenings.

michael jackson might be a perv, but i think he belongs in tier 1 over picking someone like oasis/moby/jayz! (i have nothing against those 3...)

i've totally got my own list which is similar. but i've also got stevie wonder, the rolling stones, carole king and elvis are on mine...

Well, my issue with MJ is that starting with HIStory, he hasn't done much. Oasis/Moby/Jay-Z are constantly doing new stuff (although Jay-Z has "retired"). MJ is a great entertainer, no doubt, one of the best... but just based on the quality of this songs, I think he's not that great.

I'm not going to talk about your list because you might ban me from Tabulas... ;)
