For all you Firefox proponents out there, maybe you can answer some quick questions for me. What is the obsession with tabbed browsing? I've always used "Open New Window" and used Alt+Tab to do "tabbed browsing" since .. 1999. I actually don't like tabs because there aren't any quick keyboard shortcuts (I believe, I may be wrong) to quickly navigate through tabs and to close any extraneous ones (Alt+Tab, Alt+F4 works nice when you have multiple windows open).

This is a question that's just been burning in my mind for a while; even when using Firefox I find myself opening windows instead of using the tabs. Maybe I'm missing something?

Tabs open a lot faster than windows.

You can open tabs in the background while you continue browsing the page you are on with a single click.

You can group tabs into windows (one window for a project, another window for a different project). You can even save all the tabs open in your browser into a bookmark folder. For example, I have one folder that opens all of the sites that I visit daily.

It just allows for more efficient browsing.

Opening up and maintaining a new tab over a new window takes less power and is easier to do.

I like the idea and the simplicity is there. Exodus got the shortcuts out there as well.

Firefox in the end is just a more... comfortable browsing environment. But I still prefer my multiple browsings over tabbed.

If you click on a link while holding down CTRL, it will open in a new tab. You can also click with your mouse scroller to open the new tab in the background. Using the mouse scroller to click on a tab will close it. ^^

Whoa! I use the middle button to open new tabs, but not to close them. Crazy.

CTRL + Numpad number will bring you to a specific tab. There's also a <a href="http://www.boxofchocolates.ca/archives/2004/09/17/numbered-tabs-for-firefox">nice fix</a> at Box of Chocolates.

CTRL + W will close the tab, but if you've only one tab open, it will close the window.

CTRL + Tab cycles through your list of open tabs.
