Michael Moore is an idiot. This is not to say his little outburst at the Emmy's was unpatriotic - he had every right as an American to do so.

But he needs to realize that he's at the Emmy's not to voice his political opinion. The people who selected him for his win are simply paying him homage for his directing. Not to hear him rant on about Bush. This is the reason why there was probaby booing - not because there was disagreement, but because people did not want to hear it.

The Emmy's were supposed to be an escape for those who didn't want to hear 24/7 stories from the front line of Iraq. And when an idiot like Michael Moore violated the sanctity of the night by voicing his opinions in such a harsh and potentially offensive manner ...

It's really not fair to a lot of people because they were FORCED to watch it. It wasn't the case that people could watch to see who won Best Director and NOT see the tirade; they were forceably reminded about current world opinion.

Alas ... the idiocy of the Left. Way to isolate your position. I'm surprised more anti-war people don't feel more alienated.

Also to add one more thing to my previous comment, the fact that Michael Moore lacks tact does NOT imply that he's an idiot. When you attack someone personally rather than their views (especially since you do not personally know him and are judging from such a brief incident), the only person who comes across as an idiot is yourself. Your arguments will be much more powerful if you can avoid bashing the person whose views you are debating.

The reason it became a personal attack is because of the manner in which Michael Moore conducted himself. I have no issues for small appeals for war (e.g. Adriene Brody), but the method in which Mr. Moore conducted himself is unbecoming. Furthermore, his idiocy lies in the fact that he actually THINKS that by giving that little outburst in the manner in which he did, he is somehow helping the cause. His attack on Bush was personal; there is holding back for criticism of such behaviour.

I see in Michael Moore's speech only an issue of degree, of tactlessness, rather than any great wrong done. Numerous of the Oscar award recipients used at least part of their speech time to voice their opinions about the war, whether it was Adrien Brody's passionate appeal against war, or various people's hopes that the war be swift, or that America's soldiers receive the blessing of God. The award winners' speech time is their time to use as they please, and so Michael Moore was fully justified to voice his opinions, although he did so in a rather tactless manner (but that's not much of a surprise coming from him).

Again, I have to reiterate that the time they spend is not their own. This award was granted to them for advances made in their respective fields (whether it's acting, directing, or songwriting) and the time they receive for winning these awards should be based on that. Not for childish outbursts about the state of affairs of the world.

If a scientists was at a presentation presenting his findings to his colleagues and he tried to turn his time into a personal attack on someone else, he would be surely kicked off the stage. This also goes for any publication; if you attempt to add a little tirade in your scientific paper for publishment in some scholarly scientific journal, it would not be published (or it would be edited).

There is a clear distinction between places where you can clearly voice your opinions (e.g. your personal time) and the time of some event that is NOT sponsored by you (e.g. the Emmys). I can assure you no one on the Emmy staff wanted Mr. Moore to go on an offenside tirade like that.

In his utter obliviousness to this fact lies his idiocy.

"The idocy of the left." Left is the only moral, ethical way of living.
